It’s a balmy night in Nosara, Costa Rica, and I’m standing at the bar, waiting to order a drink, when the brunette next to me turns and says, in an irresistibly husky purr, “Why don’t we try the charcoal margaritas?”
Many deliciously inky-coloured cocktails later, Jeannie and I had solved all of the world’s most pressing problems and brainstormed a brilliant new business venture, all the while enjoying the probiotic effect of tequila and the detoxing benefits of activated charcoal. How’s that for a productive night out?
Six short months later, on the eve of the launch of our lifestyle brand and content platform, Jeannieous, the two of us wanted to honour our tropical beginnings by recreating the cocktail that started it all.
Here is our take on the #jeannieous charcoal margarita…
- A shot (44ml) of tequila (don’t be blanco, baby, go gold all the way!)
- 1x TBS Cointreau
- 2x table spoons freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1x TBS organic maple syrup
- Activated charcoal. Use a shot (44ml) of a fresh pre-mix or a capsule, if you prefer.
- Ice cubes
- 1x whole lime, cut in half
- Chilli Lime Salt
METHOD:
- Pour a shot. Drink the shot. Now you’re ready to make a #jeannieous margarita that’s sure to impress the pants off of your guests 🍸
- Rim half the glass with half a fresh lime, and roll it in the Chilli Lime Salt. This way, you get to choose if you taste the salt with every sip.
- Throw a few blocks of ice into the cocktail shaker, add the tequila, cointreau, activated charcoal and fresh lime juice.
- Do a hippy, hippy shake as you mix the delicious concoction together, then pour into a sexy little cocktail glass and serve. Yum!
