Declutter Your Wardrobe

I called in a decluttering expert to detox my cupboard and the result was life-changing! Here's her top tips.

There’s something magical about a good spring clean. It’s cathartic, like a soul
detox, but instead of green juice, it involves black bags, a little bit of elbow grease, and a whole lot of ruthlessness.

When faced with the disaster-zone that my wardrobe (ok, my whole home) had become, I called in reinforcements: Dash of Dani, one of the sweetest angels to walk this earth, who also happens to be a professional decluttering ninja. And wow, did she deliver.

This wasn’t just a quick tidy. This was a full-blown, no-holds barred cupboard
cleanse. We went deep: sorting everything into piles for selling, donating, and even a “choose your fighter” pile for my stepdaughters and friends. My once-bloated wardrobe? Culled, as we filled black bag upon black bag with clothes I hadn’t worn in years. And it didn’t stop there. Dani worked her magic on the pantry, junk drawers, and all those “I’ll sort this out later” zones that we all know are just clutter gremlins in disguise. It was exhausting. It was exhilarating. But best of all, it was liberating.

And since Dani is a saint as well as an organisational genius, she left me with some #jeannieous tips for anyone brave enough to take on their own spring-cleaning marathon.

Dani’s Decluttering Tips

1. The 10-Minute Dash: Set a timer for 10 minutes and go wild. You’ll be shocked at how much you can get done in such a short burst (and it’s way less overwhelming).

2. One In, One Out: For every new item you bring in, something else has to go. Yes, even that “but it was on sale!” dress.

3. The 3-Box Rule: Label boxes: Keep, Donate, Trash. Don’t overthink it. Gut
decisions are your friend.

4. Declutter in Layers: Don’t aim for perfection in one go. Do a first sweep, then revisit a week later for a more refined purge.

5. The 5-Item Sprint: In every room, find 5 items you don’t use, love, or even notice anymore. Let them go.

6. The Reverse Hanger Trick: Hang all your clothes backwards. After 3 months, anything still facing the wrong way? Goodbye.

7. Would I Buy It Again?: When you’re trying to decide between Keep and Toss, ask yourself this. If you wouldn’t purchase it today, you probably don’t need to keep it.

8. Seasonal Declutter Dates: Treat decluttering like a quarterly event. Put on
music, light a candle, reward yourself afterwards.

Dani’s Organising Hacks

1. Everything Has a Home: If an item doesn’t have a “home,” it’s clutter. Find it one.

2. Label, Label, Label: Make it obvious where things belong. It keeps everyone accountable.

3. Use Clear Storage: If you can see it, you’ll use it. And you won’t buy duplicates.

4. Zone Your Spaces: Break cupboards into “zones”: breakfast, snacks, baking, etc. (this is a game-changer for pantries!)

5. Vertical Is Magic: Hooks, shelf risers, stackable bins: these are your best friends for creating space.

6. Decant Like a Pro: Put pantry items in clear containers. It looks dreamy and saves space.

7. Tray It Up: Group small items on trays — oils, bathroom bits, even jewellery.
Instantly chic.

8. Daily Reset: End each day with a 5-minute tidy. Way easier than a weekend
overhaul.

Why It Feels So Good

It’s amazing how much lighter you feel when you strip away what you don’t need. My wardrobe feels intentional, my kitchen is now actually functional, and my junk drawers… Well, they no longer threaten my sanity.

Spring cleaning isn’t just about “tidying up.” It’s about creating space – in your home and in your head – for things that matter. So, if you’ve been putting off your own clean-out, take this as your sign. Light a candle, set a playlist, grab those black bags, and channel your inner Dani. Your cupboards (and your soul) will thank you.

But if you can’t face doing it alone, DM Dash Of Dani – help is only a phone call away.
